Mr. Armand A. Scala was born in Boian, Alberta, Canada in 1941. He lived in Hamilton until age four, when his family moved to Omaha, Nebraska. His mother's parents emigrated to Canada, from Constanţa, Romania in 1895 and his father from Bessarabia in 1934. The duties of his father's profession as a Romanian Orthodox Priest, took him and his family to many Romanian communities both in Canada and the United States. His father was the founding priest of the Holy Cross Romanian Orthodox Church in Alexandria, Virginia.
Having been the son of the priest in the Romanian Orthodox Church, Mr. Scala's involvement with Romanians has been life long. He was President of the Parish Council for ten years and founder of the Saint Mary Orthodox Church in Falls Church, VA. He has previously served on the Episcopate Council of America, and on the Board of Governors of the prestigious Tower Club, and currently serves as President of the Congress Of Romanian Americans (CORA). He is a member of the Romanian American Action Commission sponsored by Center for Strategic and International Studies and he was a member of the international council of the Smithsonian Institution Folk-Life Festival - Romania. He has served in leadership roles, in both secular and religious societies.
Mr. Scala's first visit to Romania occurred in when he was selected as an exhibit guide for the first US exhibit to Romania, Transporturi Americane (Transportation USA) in 1963. It was at that time that he fell in love with Romania and its people.
Mr. Scala graduated from the American University in Washington, DC with a degree in government and international relations. His postgraduate studies, also completed at the American University, were in international business. He currently has his own insurance and investment business.
